Introduction | Literature | Notebook | Project | Extension |
week 1 | day 4-5 |
Ideas & Content: be based on details in Beowulf and your imagination. |
Organization: introduce your topic, divide your thoughts logically, and wrap up nicely. |
Conventions: be free of errors in grammar and spelling. This is your responsibility. |
Sentence Fluency: flow smoothly when a person reads it. Have someone read it to you to make sure. |
Word Choice: use words that are appropriate to your meaning and interesting to read. |
Voice: sound like you, and, at the same time, be appropriate for your audience. |
Using the details of Heorot from Beowulf and many more from your own imagination, create a detailed description of the great mead-hall. Include particulars about parts of the building that the story doesn't mention, such as the exterior, the throne, the tables for eating, the grounds, etc. This description should be at least 600 words long and free of errors in grammar, spelling, word usage, etc. There is no formal structure to descriptive writing; however, you probably should divide any writing of this size into paragraphs. If it does not meet minimum standards, I will return it to you with suggestions about how to improve it.
If you choose, you may describe the monster-infested wilderness around Grendel's home instead of Heorot. See me if you want to do this so I can show you an additional descriptive passage about the swamp from a part of Beowulf you didn't read.
I am expecting your best effort. The writing must be written in your own words. This project should take you two or three days to do a good job. I will grade your essay against the full 6-trait rubric. Send the finished essay to me with this file name: E7YourNameBeowulfPro
